Mooie interland der lage landen

Afgelopen zaterdag speelden we de vriendschappelijke interland in en tegen België. In een uitverkochte Arenahal in Deurne waren ongeveer 1200 dol enthousiaste badmintonfans getuige van een tot het einde toe spannende wedstrijd. Nederland won, 2-3!
âs Middags hadden we onszelf al aardig op scherp gezet, want onze voorbereiding was een potje lasergamen. Blijft toch leuk om te zien dat bij iedereen weer het kind naar boven komt en er werd naar hartenlust op los geschoten. Ik zelf schoot meer met losse flodders bleek achteraf, aangezien ik op een 5e plaats eindigde. Maar het mocht de pret niet drukken. Na een kwartier als een bezetene te hebben rondgedoold in deze kelder kon ik eigenlijk al aan het zuurstof. Best intensief zoân spelletje! Warm waren we in ieder geval al wel.
Een aantal uur voor aanvang van de wedstrijd kwamen we al binnen. Eerst een beetje losgeslagen in de arena en daarna met zân allen wat gegeten. Na het eten stond er al een rij tot op de parkeerplaats met toeschouwers die maar al te graag een goed plekje wilden hebben. Het moet gezegd worden, de Belgen kunnen wel organiseren!
Na de voorstelling van de teams en de volksliederen konden we dan eindelijk om 19.30u beginnen. Selena en ik speelden het gemengddubbel tegen Freek Golinski en SĂ©verine Corvilain. In de eerste game duurde het even voor we ons ritme vonden, maar we wisten deze game met 21-18 te winnen. In de tweede game ging het gas erop, 21-7.
De beide singels gingen naar België. Broer en zus Tan versloegen respectievelijk Eric Pang en Patty Stolzenbach en daardoor kwamen we toch wel een beetje onverwacht op een 2-1 achterstand.
Maar zoals we allemaal weten zijn we tegenwoordig in de dubbelspelen het sterkst. Vol vertrouwen gingen we dus de dames en herendubbel in. Selena en Paulien wonnen in twee games van SĂ©verine en Jelske Snoeck en ondertussen hadden Ruud en ik de eerste game gewonnen van Mathijs Dierickx en Freek Golinski. Ook in de tweede game konden we al snel uitlopen, maar de Belgen gaven zich niet zomaar gewonnen. Met goed spel en wat geluk kwamen ze terug tot 19-19, maar daarna maakten wij het af en won Nederland deze interland!
Het was een zeer geslaagde avond en nogmaals de complimenten aan het adres van Badminton Vlaanderen en Bloso voor de fantastische organisatie van deze interland!
Deze week is het tijd om lekker bij te komen van de afgelopen tijd. Het is druk geweest en het is goed om ook eens even tot rust te komen. Binnenkort kijk ik terug op het jaar 2012 in een jaaroverzicht. Voor nu wens ik iedereen hele fijne feestdagen toe, geniet van elkaar en van al het lekkere eten!

Winter break in German League: back on second place!

This week we played the last two league matches of this year. An away match on Sunday versus Bonn Beuel and at home on Tuesday versus Gifhorn.
Sunday morning I left for Germany with a loaded travelbag because I had planned to stay in MĂŒlheim until Tuesday evening. But Sunday turned out to be quite a bad day. I had a cold and I felt weak and was lacking energy. To make matters even worse I played a terribly bad menâs double which we lost in two games. In no time our team had a 3-1 deficit because also the ladies doubles and the first menâs single were won by Bonn. Fortunately the ladies single and the mixed double were won by us, which was quite an achievement, and thereby we came to a draw. That was a relief!
After this I decided not to stay in MĂŒlheim and drive back home. Nowhere you sleep better than in your own bed and with the additional benefit of an extra training at Papendal which I really needed. I had to try and correct those things that went wrong in that particular match such as steadiness, speed, explosiveness and racket skills.
It proved to have been the right choice because I felt much better on Tuesday. Although this match was also quite laborious we still managed to win it in two games. Moreover the entire team was on fire because we defeated Gifhorn with 6-0. This maximum score put us back in the second place of the League. Now there is a winter break with 5 more regular encounters to go. On Tuesday, January 22nd weâll play LĂŒdinghausen in an away match.
Saturday we still have the friendly international match versus Belgium in Deurne near Antwerp. So far 950 tickets have been sold so itâs going to be a full house. For those who may want to come and watch this happening: Venue Arena Hall, Arenaplein 1, Deurne. Start 19.00 hrs. Letâs meet there!
As from Sunday it is time to slow down a bit. It has been a busy year with many upâs and downâs. Iâll soon write a year overview on this site.

Winterstop in Bundesliga: 2e plaats terug!

Deze week stonden de laatste twee Bundesliga wedstrijden van dit jaar op het programma. Bonn Beuel uit op zondag en dinsdag Gifhorn thuis.
Bepakt en bezakt vertrok ik zondagochtend richting Duitsland want het plan was daar tot en met dinsdagavond te blijven. Die zondag verliep echter niet zo heel goed. Ik voelde mij slap, energieloos en was snotverkouden. Tot overmaat van ramp speelde ik een verschrikkelijk slechte herendubbel die we in twee games verloren. We kwamen op een 3-1 achterstand, want ook de damesdubbel en eerste herenenkel gingen naar Bonn. Gelukkig konden we er een gelijkspel uithalen: de damesenkel en de mix werden knap gewonnen. Een pak van ons hart!
Ik besloot toch terug te rijden naar huis, omdat je nergens zo lekker slaapt als in je eigen bed en bijkomend voordeel was dat ik de volgende dag de baantraining op Papendal kon afwerken en die had ik echt nodig. Alles wat slecht ging tijdens de wedstrijd kon ik even bijschaven: vastheid, racketvaardigheid en een stukje snelheid en explosiviteit.
Het bleek achteraf de juiste keuze, want dinsdag voelde ik mij alweer een stuk beter. Alhoewel ook deze wedstrijd wat moeizaam verliep, wisten we toch de partij in twee games te winnen. Het hele team stond overigens op scherp want we versloegen Gifhorn met 6-0. Door deze maximale score pakten we onze verloren tweede plaats van zondag terug en gaan we nu de winterstop in. In het nieuwe jaar wachten nog vijf reguliere wedstrijden en we beginnen dinsdag 22 januari 2013 uit tegen LĂŒdinghausen.
Nu is het tijd om even wat gas terug te nemen. Het is een drukke tijd geweest met hele leuke en wat minder leuke momenten. Binnenkort zal ik een jaaroverzicht op de site plaatsen. Zaterdag wacht eerst nog de vriendschappelijke interland in en tegen BelgiĂ«. Er zijn al 950 kaarten verkocht dus het zal een vol huis worden. Ik speel de herendubbel en het gemengddubbelspel en heb er veel zin in! Voor de geĂŻnteresseerden: zaterdagavond 19.00u, Arenahal in Deurne, vlakbij Antwerpen! Did it again!

I am looking back at a special week. The last active days of our coach Gerben Bruijstens, the bad news about the halted contribution of the Dutch Olympic Committee, a TV recording, a radio interview and also the last tournament of 2012, the Carlton Irish Open.
For 3œ years my partners and I have worked with Gerben and as in every cooperation we had ups and downs, but a positive feeling predominates. I am glad that Samantha and I and 2 other Dutch pairs could end his last tournament as the National Coach with a victory.
After the win at the Norwegian International Sam and I had not worked together anymore as she had to recover from a foot injury while I went on training as usual. Still we were top seed at this tournament and of course one wants to live up to that. Fortunately we had the opportunity in the first two rounds to find the right rhythm again because these were not too difficult. In the quarter finals we got some kind of a test for the first time when we were meeting the 6th seeded French pair Gaetan Mittelheisser and Emilie Lefel. Although we started a bit nervously we didnât allow our opponents to take a lead. We were well matched till 17-17 but then we scored 4 points in a row. In the second game we were in full control and we won that one very easily.
In the menâs doubles Dave and I were top seed as well. With two laborious wins we made it to the quarter finals and then it was all over and out. We played badly and far below our usual level. Our German opponents could benefit and without having been even close to winning a game we lost the match. It made me feel sick!
During such tournaments you can not effort to stay emotional too long as a few hours later another match is scheduled. So I had to put my disappointment away and recharge myself.
In the semi finals Samantha and I were playing Jelle Maas and Iris Tabeling. We won the first game, but at a certain moment in the second game we were facing an 11-17 arrear. Still we managed to come alongside again and then both we and them were getting several game- or match points. Finally at 25-24 we succeeded to exploit another match point and so to secure a place in the finals.
This final, the last of the tournament, was an encounter of two Dutch pairs again. Jacco Arends and Ilse Vaessen were our opponents. I arrived at the venue when the third final of the day was on so I had all the time to quietly prepare myself for the match. Although quietly?!?
In the match preceding ours Scott Evans, the Irishman, was playing Lucas Corvee, a Frenchman. Scott is a good friend on the tour and he is an outspoken guy who shows his emotions quite openly. Sometimes it is really fun to see him play because you never know what to expect. I wasnât aware that he had lost all his 7 preceding finals and when he won this match in 2 games he almost went crazy. During the interview he was more or less speechless. I was really happy for him, but I still had a job to do.
In the final we had to work very hard. In fact we were well matched. There were long and good rallies but at decisive moments we were slightly better or more consistent. With 22-20 and 21-17 Samantha and I won our second tournament in a row and that gives a great feeling again, a feeling you never get used to.
We are back home now and the next step is to find out how to proceed in the near future. Will we really be banished from the national training centre Papendal in August? Which tournaments can we still play next year? Do we get a new National Coach and who will be the new Technical Director. Many, many questions and time to get answers. Naturally I will try to keep you all informed about the developments. So even though there are no more tournaments the coming weeks you may stay tuned as there are 2 more matches in the German League to come and probably also other things to report on.

Did it again!

Een speciale week ligt achter mij. De laatste dagen van Gerben Bruijstens als bondscoach, het slechte nieuws over de NOC*NSF bijdrage, televisieopname, radio interview en ook nog het laatste toernooi van dit kalenderjaar, the Carlton Irish Open 2012.
Gedurende drieënhalfjaar heb ik met mijn partners samengewerkt met Gerben. Zoals in elke samenwerking was dat met ups en downs. Toch houd ik er bovenal een positief gevoel aan over en ben ik ook wat blij dat we in zijn laatste toernooi als bondscoach een overwinning eruit hebben kunnen slepen!
Na de winst op de Noorse Open hadden Samantha en ik eigenlijk niet meer samen op de baan gestaan. Sam nam wat rust om van haar voetblessure te herstellen terwijl ik wel gewoon heb doorgetraind. Toch sta je eerste geplaatst op dit toernooi en wil je dat uiteraard ook waarmaken. Gelukkig konden we de eerste twee rondes weer even erin komen. Die stelden niet veel voor. Pas in de kwartfinale kwam een eerste testje tegen een Frans koppel. Hoewel we in de eerste game wat nerveus begonnen, konden de Fransen niet weglopen. Sterker nog, tot 17-17 ging het gelijk op en we pakten daarna 4 punten op rij. In de tweede game waren we los en die wonnen we dan ook erg eenvoudig.
In het dubbelspel waren Dave en ik overigens ook als eerste geplaatst, we kwamen via twee moeizame overwinningen in de kwartfinale maar daar ging het licht uit. We speelden slecht en zwaar onder ons niveau. Onze Duitse tegenstanders konden hier duidelijk van profiteren en zonder ook maar in de buurt te komen van gamewinst verloren we de hele wedstrijd. Ik was er goed ziek van!
Tijdens zulke toernooien heb je echter niet lang de tijd om met zulke emoties rond te blijven lopen. Een paar uur later staat namelijk alweer een volgende partij op het schema. Ik moest mijn teleurstelling dus snel een plekje geven. In de halve finale mix speelden we tegen landgenoten Jelle Maas en Iris Tabeling. De eerste game ging ruim gewonnen, maar in de tweede game kwamen we met 11-17 achter. We kwamen echter helemaal terug en er vielen game en matchpoints over en weer. Pas op 25-24 konden we ons zoveelste matchpoint benutten, door naar de finale!
En ook in de finale stond een Nederlands koppel tegenover ons, Jacco Arends en Ilse Vaessen. We waren pas de laatste finale. Ik kwam bij de derde finale de hal binnen en kon mij dus in alle rust voorbereiden op het slotstuk. Alhoewel rust!?! Voor onze finale speelde de Ier Scott Evans zijn wedstrijd tegen een Fransman. Scott is een goede vriend van mij op de Tour en hij is een nogal uitgesproken jongen die zijn emoties altijd goed laat zien. Dat kan heel vermakelijk zijn, want je weet nooit goed wat je mag verwachten. Ik wist echter niet dat hij zijn zeven voorgaande finales allemaal verloren had. Hij ging dan ook helemaal uit zijn dak toen hij deze partij in twee games won en kon amper meer uit zijn woorden komen tijdens het interview. Ik was blij voor hem, alleen moest ik zelf wel nog ââevenââ de baan op.
In de finale moesten we keihard werken. Eigenlijk deden we niet veel voor elkaar onder. Er waren lange en goede rallies maar op de beslissende momenten waren wij toch nét wat sterker of consistenter. Met 22-20 en 21-17 wonnen Samantha en ik ons tweede toernooi op rij en dat is wederom een geweldig gevoel. Het gevoel dat je hebt bij het winnen van een toernooi went nooit. Het is heerlijk.
Nu terug in Nederland gaan we eens rustig bekijken hoe we de komende tijd verder kunnen gaan. Zijn de geruchten waar dat we per augustus 2013 van Papendal weg moeten? Welke toernooien kunnen we nog gaan spelen in het nieuwe jaar? Komt er nog wel een nieuwe bondscoach en wie wordt de nieuwe technisch directeur? Heel veel vragen, maar de tijd is nu daar om opheldering te vragen. Uiteraard probeer ik jullie allemaal op de hoogte te houden van de ontwikkelingen, dus ook al zijn er even geen toernooien meer, houd deze website in de smiezen!

Black Tuesday

Today is a black day for the Elite Badminton in The Netherlands. Â Just like everybody around me I was shocked when I heard the news that the Dutch Olympic Committee had definitely rejected the investment plan of the Dutch Badminton Association and will stop funding our top badminton program.
I had just finished a TV recording for a Youth Sports Show and all of a sudden you see a lot of your athletic dreams fall apart.  First there is fear, then confusion and anger but eventually also realism. Because who had listened well to Maurits Hendriks, the NOC*NSF Technical Director, during the fantastic Papendal Sport Parade on November 3rd could have heard his plans between the lines. NOC*NSF should only focus on sports that offer realistic opportunities for medals at the next Olympics. In fact he had 6 or 7 in mind but today it became clear that it will be 10. The last 8 years all of us, players as well as the Badminton Association, failed to get anywhere near a medal and so we could have foreseen what has happened today.
All this means that for many highly motivated and enthusiastic youngsters, full time players as well as talents, an important road towards the next Olympics has been shut down. Yet there are several roads leading to Rome and our challenge will be to find another proper road. From now on players will have to concentrate on that next to their daily trainings. I hope the Badminton Association will do the same. Out of the box thinking is now required. If someone has serious and constructive ideas please let me know!

Zwarte dinsdag

Het is een zwarte dag voor het top badminton in Nederland. Net als iedereen om mij heen schrok ik me dood toen ik vandaag het nieuws hoorde dat NOC*NSF het investeringsplan Top badminton van BN had afgewezen. Ik was net klaar met een TV opname voor ZAPP Sport the Battle en dan zie je plotseling heel veel van je sportieve dromen in duigen vallen. Eerst is er schrik, dan verwarring en boosheid maar uiteindelijk natuurlijk ook realiteitszin. Want wie 3 november tijdens de Papendal Sport Parade goed had geluisterd naar Maurits Hendriks had tussen de regels door al kunnen horen dat NOC*NSF zich de komende jaren alleen nog maar zou gaan richten op sporten die reële kansen bieden op medailles bij de komende Olympische Spelen. Eigenlijk maar 6 of 7 sporten en vandaag bleek dat het er 10 zijn geworden.
De laatste jaren zijn wij er met zân allen, spelers en Bond, niet in geslaagd om ook maar in de buurt van een medaille te komen en dus hadden we dit kunnen verwachten. Dat neemt niet weg dat er voor veel enthousiaste en gemotiveerde spelers en talenten een belangrijke weg naar een Olympisch Toernooi is afgesloten. Toch leiden er meerdere wegen naar Rome en het zal de kunst worden om die andere wegen te vinden. In ieder geval moeten wij als Spelers ons nu daarop gaan concentreren en hopelijk doet Badminton Nederland dat ook. Als iemand serieuze en constructieve ideeĂ«n heeft dan hou ik mij aanbevolen!

Start of the return matches in the German Premier League

Last weekend another double encounter was scheduled. The first matches of the second half of the league! On Saturday a home match versus Berlin and on Sunday the away match versus Rosenheim. Both are tough opponents.
Again we didnât have the strongest possible team formation as Marcus Ellis was playing the Welsh Open where he reached two finals and Johanna Goliszewski was more or less worn out in the German Army where she has been called for duty and where she is getting an average of 4 hours sleep per night. Still she was allowed to leave the Hannover barracks to play these matches.
On Saturday we started very energetically. Judith Meulendijks and Johanna won the ladies double and Dima Zavadsky and I defeated Robert Blair and Bin Shen Tan in an attractive and exciting 3 game match. The first menâs single was also a win but then the odds turned completely and the remaining three matches were won by Berlin. So just like the first encounter this one also ended with a draw and we were quite satisfied with that result.
After a quick shower we rushed off in our âteam minibusâ for the trip to Rosenheim. This city is located in the South of Germany quite near the Austrian border.  As the distance is 700 kilometres we made an overnight stop at an hotel somewhere in the middle of nowhere. After a solid sleep and a proper German breakfast we took all the time to drive the last 180 kilometres on Sunday morning.
Also in this competition we started very well. Again Dima and I won the menâs double and also the ladies double and ladies single were decided in favour of MĂŒlheim. After these 3 points the Rosenheim team seemed to get wings when they won the second menâs single. The first menâs single between Dima Zavadsky and Tan Chun Seang was a magnificent match which was, after both players had gotten some matchpoints, finally decided in the third game and in favour of Rosenheim with a score of 25-23.
So it was up to Johanna and me to try and score the winning point in the mixed doubles. We succeeded to win the first game but in the second and third game our opponents were just a bit better. With 21-18, 19-21 and 19-21 we drew the shortest straw which meant that we had to settle for a draw again. Nevertheless, considering the circumstances, we should be happy with the 2 points and with the second place in the League at one point behind leader Berlin!
This week we only have 3 days of training because we leave for Ireland on Thursday where we will play the last tournament of this year. Tomorrow Samantha and I will perform in a youth sports TV show which will be recorded in the afternoon and after that Iâll have an intake interview for the level 4 Sports coach course which will start in January. De Bundesliga return wedstrijden zijn begonnen!

Afgelopen weekend stond er weer een dubbelweekend in de Duitse Bundesliga op het programma. De eerste wedstrijden van de tweede competitie helft! Berlijn thuis en het verre Rosenheim uit, altijd lastig!
We begonnen zaterdag zeer voortvarend ook al speelden we dit weekend wederom niet in de sterkst mogelijke opstelling. Marcus Ellis speelde twee finales in Wales en Johanna Goliszewski verblijft nog steeds intern bij de Duitse Bundeswehr, waar ze gemiddeld 4 uur slaap per nacht pakt. Toch mocht ze dit weekend de basis in Hannover even verlaten om de wedstrijden te spelen. We begonnen zeer sterk. Tegen Berlijn wonnen Judith en Johanna de damesdubbel en Dima Zavadsky en ik versloegen Blair en Tan in een mooie en spannende drie gamer. De eerste herenenkel ging ook naar ons, maar in de tweede herenenkel, de damesenkel en de mix was Berlijn duidelijk sterker. Toch weer net als in de eerste wedstrijd een gelijkspel. We waren er blij mee.
Na afloop snel douchen en de bus in want zondagmiddag moesten we aantreden tegen Rosenheim. Dit plaatsje ligt nog voorbij MĂŒnchen en is niet ver van de Oostenrijkse grens. We reden een kilometer of 500 en bleven vervolgens in een hotel in the middle of nowhere overnachten om de volgende ochtend de laatste 180 kilometer af te leggen. Ook nu begonnen we weer erg goed aan de wedstrijd. We wonnen de heren en damesdubbel en ook de damesenkel ging in twee games naar ons. Maar daarna ging het minder goed en leek Rosenheim vleugels te krijgen toen de tweede herenenkel gewonnen werd. De eerste herenenkel tussen Zavadsky en Tan was een schitterende partij die na een paar matchpoints over en weer in het voordeel van Rosenheim beslist werd. De mix moest dus de doorslag geven, konden we er nog 2-4 van maken? Helaas niet. We wonnen nog wel de eerste game, maar in de tweede en derde game kwamen we net wat tekort en met 19 en 19 trokken we aan het kortste eind en verspeelden we eigenlijk ons eerste puntje van dit seizoen. Aan de andere kant: we mogen blij zijn dat we twee punten hebben kunnen binnenhalen dit weekend onder deze omstandigheden en we staan nog steeds op een mooie tweede plaats, op Ă©Ă©n punt van koploper Berlijn!
Deze week hebben we een korte trainingsweek voor de boeg, want donderdag vertrekken we naar Ierland voor ons laatste toernooi van dit jaar. Morgenmiddag heb ik ook nog opnames voor Zappsport the Battle en ga ik mijn intakegesprek doen voor de Sportleider 4 cursus die in januari zal starten. Een leuke week voor de boeg! Hard work and commitment pay off: mixed title in Norway!

Thursday morning KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) took us to Oslo where the Norwegian International would be played. After a smooth flight we arrived at our hotel early afternoon. We were informed that there were no training courts available as the qualification matches were well under way. But there was an alternative, an excellent fitness centre right around the corner. It was great to let off steam and to exercise after the journey.
Our first matches were scheduled on Friday evening. Normally, when all goes well, Friday is a very hard day with 4 matches but this time I had a bye in the first round of both menâs doubles and mixed. A nice bonus. The first round in the menâs doubles is not worth mentioning. Our opponents were not strong. But in the mixed it was a different story. Samantha Barning and I had 2 Finnish opponents and in the first game we didnât stand a chance. We simply were not concentrated but after this unexpected loss we put things in order by winning the following 2 games quite easily. So two quarter finals!
This meant that now the hardest day would be Saturday. In the menâs doubles Dave Khodabux and I met a Danish pair which was not too difficult to play. We won in two games. But again the venom was in the mixed. We were facing a second seeded Ukrainian pair and I had never won before from this guy. Also this time our start was not good. I had trouble to find the right rhythm but nevertheless we kept on scoring points. Finally we did win the first game in the extension with a little bit of luck. In the second game, after the interval, we managed to take a lead and we were no longer in danger. This was a nice win and it meant 2 semi finals!
In those two matches we had to play versus our team mates. Dave and I started with the menâs doubles versus Jacco Arends and Jelle Maas. At our last encounter, the final of the Spanish Open, we won and I had a positive feeling when we started off. From the beginning we all were well focussed and well matched. In fact we might as well have started at 18-18 which we do quite often during the trainings. We won the first game with 19 and they won the second with 19. You wouldnât expect it but the third game had a similar course. Unfortunately we lost that one with âŠ19-21. From both sides it was a good match and I was happy with my playing, but of course we were disappointed after such a thrilling match.
There was hardly any time to deal with this disappointment as the semi final mixed had to be played soon after it. Again a Dutch get together with Dave and Selena Piek as opponents. A month ago we also played each other in the second round of the Dutch Open and then we won after a marathon encounter. This match was completely different again. Less rallies and the focus on the first 4 or five shots. We won the first game and they over classed us in the second. The final game was very exciting and till the last stage of the game we were well matched but then we drew the longest straw and won the game with 21-18. COOL, our first challenge final!!
In the last encounter on Sunday Samantha and I were facing the German pair Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels, a very strong and experienced pair which not long ago was number 8 on the world ranking. At the London Olympic Games they played a great tournament and reached the quarter finals. In the past I had played them once and then I lost in 3 games. However, in my still fresh partnership with Samantha it was the first time. In the first game we didnât stand a chance and we didnât even come close to winning it. We lost with 16-21. In the second game we first kept a 3 point arrear for some time but then we started to play longer rallies. I really had to work very, very hard and I almost died in the back court. For some reason this way of playing worked out well and while fighting for every single point we managed to get a better control. At a 17-20 score we succeeded to survive the three match points but then again an arrear of 20-21. We also survived this match point followed by 2 more consecutive points. This meant a win and it gave us both a very good feeling. In the final game we kept on fighting for every single point but again we were facing an arrear of some points. At the end we first tied the score and then for the first time we even took a lead. We reached match point first but we didnât succeed to capitalize it right away. It was now or never!! 19-20, a good and again long lasting rally andâŠâŠ the error of the Germans! We had won!!! We just did it! How happy we were to conclude a difficult tournament with defeating an opponent of this calibre. It really gave us a satisfied feeling!
Today I am recovering and enjoying this achievement. Tomorrow it is business as usual again at Papendal!
