Home decorations i.s.o. collecting returnable bottles!

It’s no secret. The past months I have been looking for new ideas to get funding for my tournament program. After my successful World Championship crowd funding project earlier this year I have now entered into a commercial cooperation with Rob Taconis, a Dutch entrepreneur and badminton fan. He runs two contemporary home decor and home heating shops, Decorette Elburg and Decorette Sneek.
When people need home decoration articles they may order from these shops and when they indicate that they want to support me I will get 10 percent of the realised sales and the buyer receives a document stating that he is an official “Jorrit de Ruiter sponsor”.

I hope that many people will find their way to the Decorette shops in Elburg or Sneek for their home decorations and will decide to sponsor me via their purchases.

Ni Hao Wuhan!

Afgelopen vrijdag vertrokken Samantha en ik dan eindelijk naar China. Na, via ons crowdfunding project, bijna 3 maanden met deze reis bezig te zijn geweest gaf het een goed gevoel om de KLM Boeing 747 in te stappen voor de vlucht naar Shanghai. Na ruim 10 uur vliegen moesten we daar een kleine 4 uur wachten voor onze doorverbinding naar Wuhan. Wachten op een luchthaven hebben we de afgelopen weken genoeg gedaan dus deze keer kon er ook nog wel bij. Eenmaal in het vliegtuig ging de tijd snel, het is niet zo’n lange vlucht. Toen we onze bagage opgehaald hadden en we naar buiten liepen werden we meteen ontvangen door twee vrijwilligers van Jie, die een supergroot roze bord met onze namen bij zich hadden. Zij brachten ons naar het hotel. We kwamen toen ook voor het eerst buiten en dat was heet, heel erg heet. Het is hier 38 graden, echt een muur van hitte die op je af komt.

Eenmaal in het hotel kwamen we al gauw de andere Nederlandse gasten van Jie tegen die zij had uitgenodigd. Naast Erik Meijs, Koen Ridder en Ruud Bosch zijn hier uit Nederland ook Clemens Wortel, de voorzitter van Badminton Nederland en BN bestuurslid Marloes van Heteren. Verder zijn er ook nog 3 Bulgaarse speelsters en uit Spanje is Pablo Abian overgekomen.

Met deze groep genoten we zaterdagavond van ons eerste Chinese diner en dat was heerlijk. Het voelde goed om weer terug te zijn in Wuhan waar ik 4 jaar geleden aanwezig mocht zijn bij het huwelijk van Eric en Jie en waar ik toen ook al zo’n goede tijd doorbracht.

Gisteren stonden de finalewedstrijden van de Yao Jie Cup op het programma. Wij speelden allemaal een partijtje tot de 11 tegen recreanten en een game tegen provincie spelers. Samantha en ik speelden twee keer een mix en alle anderen speelden ook tenminste één keer. Alle Nederlanders wonnen hun wedstrijden ondanks de zware jetlag. Jie kreeg veel aandacht van (lokale) media en werd ook in het zonnetje gezet door bondsvoorzitter Clemens Wortel. Het is een mooie dag voor haar geweest. ’s Avonds hebben we met z’n allen gegeten bij de hoofdsponsor van dit evenement en vanaf vandaag beginnen we met een trainingsweek hier in Wuhan.

Our crowd funding project: The intermediate score is € 2.600

Last weekend we reached the level of € 2.600. A fantastic amount, brought together by many people, but we still need the remaining € 1.400 to match the target amount. We have 3 more weeks left to complete the necessary € 4.000 because all filings have to be made before July 5^th and before that date all the formalities should have been taken care of. The past weeks I have spent a lot of time on the crowd funding project and on looking for potential sponsors. I have had many personal conversations with interested parties, with supporters and journalists and I have written letters and very many e mails. In this hectic period I also had to play the Spanish Open. Samantha and I had decided to play this tournament to keep our match practice.

It happened that the English squad had decided not to participate in the Sudirman Cup as they could only compete in the B group, just like The Netherlands. So the whole English squad was in Madrid. This allowed me to also sign up for the men’s doubles together with Marcus Ellis, my teammate at 1.BV Mülheim.

In both disciplines we played well but the results were disappointing. We were eliminated early. Once again it was proven that a sports performance, whether good or bad, is always the product of your own talent and extraordinary efforts, physically but also mentally. If anything is not right in your mind, if there is too much trouble, your achievements are inevitably affected. Only if you are physically fit and able to fully concentrate on your sport and tournament you have the best chances to win matches. During this tournament it was physically as well as mentally not OK.

Samantha and I have subsequently evaluated everything and have gone through all the points once again. Monday, after a week of rest, we have picked up the thread again and have started to work with renewed energy. Nevertheless peripheral issues keep on bothering us and it would be nice if these could be dealt with as quick as possible!

Whitsun is behind us and the holiday season is approaching fastly. Before that season we need to have settled all formalities for the World Championships. The funding is still far from completion but we trust that the example of the many people who have already supported us will be followed by many others.

Thursday Samantha and I will leave for Madrid to participate in the Spanish Open. I will also play the men’s doubles with Marcus Ellis, my teammate at 1.BV Mülheim.

With your help only!! Een video om te enthousiasmeren!

Wat is het geweldig als je door zovelen geholpen word om je doel te bereiken. Vandaag kan ik, dankzij de hulp van goede vrienden, een promotievideo presenteren. Ik hoop dat jullie hem leuk vinden maar natuurlijk ook dat hij zal helpen om nog vele andere badminton- en/of sportliefhebbers over te halen om een financiële bijdrage te geven en ons te helpen om naar het WK te gaan.

Pinksteren is voorbij en de vakantieperiode komt snel naderbij. Vóór die periode moeten wij onze zaakjes voor het WK geregeld hebben. Wij hebben de financiën nog lang niet rond maar we vertrouwen erop dat het voorbeeld van de velen die ons al hebben gesteund door nog vele anderen gevolgd zal worden.

Donderdag vertrekken Samantha en ik naar Madrid om daar het Spanish Open te spelen. Tevens zal ik daar uitkomen in het herendubbel samen met Marcus Ellis met wie ik ook bij 1.BV Mülheim speel.

Well on track with crowd funding! The balance is € 2080

I have good news! 10 Days ago we started our crowd funding campaign via the social media Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to raise funds for our journey to China and our participation in the World Championships. From that moment on I have got a whole lot of positive responses from many many people in The Netherlands and Belgium. But there were also responses from quite some other countries.

The campaign was also picked up by the media. In the mean time I have had a couple of interviews both on radio and for newspapers. Because of all the attention and the fact that I have a great crowd the balance on our account is € 2080,00 now. So we are a bit further than halfway which is fantastic news but a fact is that you always get the biggest response in the first week of a campaign. Too early to start cheering, though. We still need to raise the remaining € 1920,00. Update on our crowdfunding project

I have got quite a few hints that sportlovers who like to support us financially find it too complicated to find out on which bank account they can deposit their contribution. That’s why I now publish the account number which is in the name of F. de Ruiter who is managing this project for us.

We are one week on the road now and so far we are on schedule. Update over het crowdfunding project

Ik heb nogal wat aanwijzingen gekregen dat sportliefhebbers die ons financieel willen steunen het te ingewikkeld vinden om erachter te komen waar ze hun bijdrage kunnen storten. Daarom vermeld ik nu het bankrekeningnummer wat hiervoor beschikbaar is en dat op naam staat van F. de Ruiter, die het project beheert.

Every little bit helps!!

In my previous story I asked for financial support to make it possible for Samantha and myself to participate in the World Championships in China. From some comments I get I conclude that people think we are looking for one sponsor. The opposite is true. We hope that many want to contribute no matter how small the amount is. Our project is the raising of € 4000 and this mission is also accomplished with 400 sponsors donating € 10. The idea is that many small pieces make one big total. Of course this doesn’t mean that bigger contributions are not welcome or that we are not looking for one or more sponsors who want to support us for a longer period of time.
