Last night I came back from the 101st All England in Birmingham. As there was no internet in our hotel I couldn’t write my report until now.
Last Tuesday we had to play in the qualification tournament. Our opponents were the very strong new Korean pair Kim and Kim. These two young guys made it to the final in the German Open Grand Prix Gold last week in Mülheim which was a very good achievement. So a bad draw but we had the opportunity to get some information about this pair in advance. Last week one of their matches had been videorecorded and I went back to Mülheim to watch their semi final. Besides Youtube is also a very good source nowadays.
We started very well and until 14-14 we could keep up with them. Then we made errors and the difference in level became clear. From their service and from mid court to frontcourt these guys managed to put a lot of pressure and in the remainder of the match we couldn’t cope with it. We lost with 15 and 13. End of the tournament. Nevertheless I have seen many fantastic matches the next 2 days, quite some surprises and I learned a lot. The All England was and still is one of my 2 favourite tournaments and I think it will always be.
Tonight we play the last match of the season in the League against Duinwijck which only needs 3 points to keep the top position and we have to settle for the fifth place. I hope that we will succeed to conclude this competition in a satisfactory way.
