We have a new technical director

Yesterday afternoon at a press conference at Papendal, the Dutch National Olympic training Centre, the board  of the Dutch Badminton Association, presented the new technical director. As from January 1st Eline Coene will be the new boss of the Top sport section. 

It will be quite strange having to get used to a new director because in all the years I have been active as a player it always was Martijn van Dooremalen who was in charge at and around the badminton courts. So it was quite a special day for badminton in the Netherlands. It’s obvious that  I’m very curious about Eline’s plans for the future. As a player but also as chairman of the players council I am looking forward to work with her. One thing is clear: it is not an easy job she applied for.

Rehabilitation Week 3 and tournament schedule

Well, week 3 of my custom rehabilitation schedule is already over. Time flies. I am very satisfied with my recovery. This week I started with quite a tough power program that I now follow 3 times a week. Next week, with the guidance of our power trainer Patrick van Balkom, I will try to make my upper legs as strong as possible. Together with physio Beate I will work on the stability of my body. All this should ultimately make me ready for a fresh start in the new year.

On court, the exercises have been expanded. Last week we have done two so-called multi shuttle sessions at a higher level than the weeks before. The fixed patterns are gradually replaced by ”random” exercises (you can expect the shuttle everywhere) and the intensity increases. I also practiced my defence intensively at the same time training my racquet skills. We do this mostly in a 2-1 player situation where there is one player attacking from the back court and the other is putting pressure from the net on me as a defensive player. At the end of the week I was already able to partly join the training of the other double players and that made me feel good!

Last Tuesday Dave and I discussed the tournament program for the first half year of 2011 with the technical director and our coach. They have made up a very good program (of course subject to injuries and finance) and I have immediately updated the agenda on the site so you can see where and when I am playing and in which country.
