First defeat Duinwijck 1

Yesterday evening we had the away match versus Amersfoort. At home we achieved a 6-2 win but this time we were missing Karina de Wit who is pregnant.
As usual we started with the men’s doubles. Koen and I met Jelle Maas and Joely Residay. Koen is not yet completely fit and could hardly train the past week. Still we made it a good match. The first game was fine and also in the second game we never really lost control.
Simultaneously Akvile Stapusaityte and Eva Krab were playing the ladies doubles versus Eefje Muskens and Maartje Verheul. During this match our ladies did get chances but at decisive moments the Amersfoort pair was better. Intermediate score 1-1.
Erik Meijs met Edwin Ekiring in the first men’s single and he played well but it wasn’t easy at all. After having won the first game he started well in the second and it looked like he had nothing to worry about but then he lost his advantage and Edwin forced him to play a third game. During this game a very unfortunate finishing stroke of Edwin put the shuttle in Erik’s eye but he recovered quickly and he kept his concentration. He finally won the game and the match.
Substitute Betty Timmerman found herself in competition with Kirsten van der Valk and she played more than well in the first game but finally she couldn’t get the profits. In the second game the candle slowly died and Kirsten could strike.
In the second men’s single Jerry Natenstedt played in fact a very good match versus Nick Fransman who was keen on revenge after his loss in Haarlem. Where the first game was still decided in favour of Jerry it was Nick who took control in the next two games and who claimed the win.
In the second ladies single Akvile met Gayle Mahulette and it became a match with ups and downs. Akvile kept her best performance for the last stage and she won the third game convincingly. This meant a 3-3 intermediate score.
The sting was in the tail of this league confrontation. In the mixed doubles Eva and I had trouble in finding the right rhythm in the first game versus Jelle Maas and Eefje Muskens and we lost this game. With hard work and the right fighting spirit we managed to decide the second game in our favour but in the beginning of the third game we lost too many points and we couldn’t bridge this gap anymore. Eefje and Jelle deserved to win this match.  Â
Finally the occasional mixed double of Erik Meijs and Betty Timmerman was won by the Amersfoort pair Joely Residay and Maartje Verheul putting the final score on 5-3, our first loss of this season. Somehow this requires a different mindset. I have thought it over and I must say: I don’t like it ONE bit.
Next weekend there are two home matches scheduled. Saturday at 7 PM we’ll meet Roosteren and on Sunday at 2 PM Velo will be our opponent. It’s going to be all hands on deck so please come to the Duinwijck hall and support us!

Eerste verlies voor Duinwijck 1

Gisteravond stond de kraker tegen Amersfoort op het programma. De thuiswedstrijd wisten wij met 6-2 te winnen, maar gisteravond speelden wij zonder Karina die in verwachting is.
We begonnen met de herendubbel. Koen en ik speelden tegen Jelle Maas en Joely Residay. Koen is nog steeds niet helemaal fit en had de afgelopen week amper getraind. Toch konden we een goede wedstrijd neerzetten. Vooral de eerste game was prima en eigenlijk kwamen we ook in de tweede game nooit echt in gevaar.
In de damesdubbel van Akvile en Eva tegen Eefje Muskens en Maartje Verheul lagen er zeker kansen, maar op de beslissende momenten waren de speelsters van Amersfoort scherper. Tussenstand 1-1.
Erik Meijs speelde een goede wedstrijd tegen Edwin Ekiring. Nadat hij de eerste game met goed spel won en in de tweede game ruim voorstond leek er geen vuiltje aan de lucht. Toch verspeelde hij de voorsprong en moest er een derde game gespeeld worden. Een ongelukkige afmaakbal van Edwin belandde nog in het oog van Erik maar hij bleef geconcentreerd spelen en won de derde game en daarmee de partij.
Invalster Betty Timmerman speelde een meer dan goede eerste game tegen Kirsten van der Valk maar kon niet voorkomen dat ze in de verlenging aan het korste eind trok. In de tweede game was de koek op en kon Amersfoort toeslaan.
Jerry Natenstedt speelde eigenlijk weer een hele goede wedstrijd tegen Nick Fransman. Vorige keer wist Jerry in twee games te winnen, maar Nick was gebrand op revanche. Toch ging de eerste game naar Jerry, maar in game twee en drie herstelde Nick zich knap en won de wedstrijd.
Akvile speelde in haar wedstrijd tegen Gayle Mahulette een wedstrijd met ups en downs. Ze bewaarde het beste spel voor het laatst want de derde game won ze overtuigend. Nog steeds een gelijke tussenstand, 3-3.
In de mix hadden Eva en ik moeite om het ritme te vinden in de eerste game tegen Jelle en Eefje. Deze ging dan ook ruim verloren. Door hard te werken en strijdlustig te blijven wisten we de tweede game te winnen, maar helaas kwamen we in de derde game aan het begin te ver achter om weer bij te komen. Eefje en Jelle wonnen verdiend deze wedstrijd.
En omdat ook de gelegenheidsmix van Erik en Betty in twee games naar Joely en Maartje ging kwam de einduitslag op 5-3 voor Amersfoort en dus ons eerste verlies van het seizoen. Best even wennen is dat en ik heb er even over nagedacht: ik vind het maar niks!
Aankomend weekend wacht een dubbelweekend met twee thuiswedstrijden. Zaterdag om 19.00u tegen Roosteren en zondag om 14.00u tegen Velo. Kom dus allemaal naar de Duinwijckhal toe om ons te steunen!

Saturday evening the first real badminton confrontation of the season was scheduled: Duinwijck versus Amersfoort. After a number of thrilling matches it was concluded with a 6-2 win in favour of Duinwijck.
For the first time this season our team was complete so we could make the best possible set up. This meant that Koen Ridder and I took the men’s doubles for our account. In both games we never lost control and we won straight from Joeli Residay and Jelle Maas. The ladies doubles was lost in three games and that put the intermediate score on 1-1.
Surprisingly the score in the men’s singles was shared. Erik Meijs lost in two close games from Edwin Ekiring but Jerry Natenstedt played the match of his life versus Nick Fransman. Sitting alongside the court I could see Jerry coming into the right flow which he kept until the end of the match. It was nice to see how, also with a little bit of luck, everything went right. So after these 2 confrontations the intermediate score still was a draw. 2-2.
For some reason Jerry’s unexpected win gave us an enormous boost because all of the remaining matches, both ladies singles as well as the two mixed doubles, were won. In my mixed doubles with Eva Krab we had a difficult start. We lost the first game but in the next two games we never got in danger anymore. In our match last week in Almere we laid the foundations for the rest of the season and I am very happy with it. Also Koen Ridder and Karina de Wit put down a great performance and Amersfoort did not stand a chance. An unexpected but very good 6-2 final score put us on the lead again closely followed by van Zundert Velo.
The next league match is versus Roosteren in Limburg next Saturday. And the coming week we’ll go on preparing ourselves for the Dutch Open which is 10 days from now. Stay tuned for more news!!

Zaterdagavond stond de eerste echte badmintontopper van het seizoen op het programma: Duinwijck – Amersfoort. Het werd na een aantal spannende wedstrijden een 6-2 overwinning voor de Haarlemse muggen.
Omdat het team voor het eerst dit seizoen helemaal compleet was, konden we in onze sterkste opstelling spelen. Dit betekende dat Koen en ik de herendubbel speelden. In beide games kwamen we niet in gevaar en we wonnen in straight games van Joeli en Jelle. Omdat de damesdubbel in drie games verloren ging was de tussenstand 1-1.
Beide herenenkels werden verrassend verdeeld. Erik verloor in twee close games van Edwin, maar Jerry speelde de wedstrijd van zijn leven tegen Nick. Je kon langs de kant heel goed zien hoe Jerry in de flow raakte en daar ook niet meer uit kwam. Een mooi gezicht. Ook het geluk was aan zijn zijde en alles zat mee. Nog steeds een gelijke tussenstand 2-2.
Op de een of andere manier zorgde deze onverwachte overwinning voor een enorme boost, want de wedstrijden erna werden allemaal gewonnen. De damesenkels gingen gewonnen en ook beide mixen werden in winst omgezet. De mix van Eva en mij liep op de eerste game na erg goed en in game twee en drie kwamen we niet meer in gevaar. In de wedstrijd vorige week tegen Almere hebben we een goede basis gelegd voor de rest van het seizoen en daar ben ik erg blij mee. Ook Koen en Karina speelden een zeer goede mix en Amersfoort had geen kans. Een onverwachte, maar zeer fijne einduitslag van 6-2 stond op het scoreboard. Hierdoor staan we nog steeds op plaats Ă©Ă©n op de voet gevolgd door Van Zundert Velo.
De volgende wedstrijd is aankomende zaterdag tegen Roosteren in Limburg. Verder gaan we deze week op Papendal verder met de voorbereiding op de Dutch Open. Stay tuned for more news!
