A great training week lies behind us. We welcomed the French double selection which visited Papendal for a training camp. A very good initiative from Badminton the Netherlands and the French Badminton Association!
In August we visited the German selection a couple of days, this week guests came to visit us. Such a training camp is always refreshing. You play against other opponents and the multi-shuttle drills e.g. are performed in a different way. The French use a special camera tripod in order to present the shuttles much faster. On the tripod two tubes are attached, containing about 40 shuttles each. This is ideal for training the fast strokes, like racket skills and defence exercises. The French coach told me that this construction comes from the UK. Perhaps it is a good idea to also introduce this system at Papendal.
Personally, I also made good progress this week. Finally I was allowed on court for one hour a day to run 2-2 exercises with Dave or to play games against the French. I’m not dissatisfied, actually it went pretty well and most importantly I do not feel insecure on court. Of course I still lack speed and the error rate is slightly higher than normal, but I do not worry about it. No doubt this will improve rather quickly! Next week I’ll make another step forward and hopefully a comeback in the league will than come in sight!
