World championships preview of the matches of Dutch players: Ladies doubles

In this event two Dutch pairs have qualified for the World Championships. Lotte Jonathans and her partner Paulien van Dooremalen and Selena Piek with Iris Tabeling.

Lotte and Paulien are seeded 13th and in the first round they have a bye. This means that they will either play against Chan and Chau from Hong Kong or Agathangelou and Olver from England. Considering the ranking of both pairs Lotte and Paulien should not have much to fear. They have never met the Hong Kong Chinese before but against the English the mutual position is 2-2. An interesting detail is that all four matches were decided in three games. Still I believe that Lotte and Paulien can cope better with the English than with the Chinese way of playing. If they manage to win this second round than they will most probably be confronted with the Japanese pair Matsuo and Naito.

Selena and Iris have a successful year behind them and they have qualified themselves for their first World Championship. They have drawn the Canadian girls Michelle Li and Alex Bruce which is not bad at all. Although the Canadians are 13 points better in ranking I consider our pair to stand a good chance provided Iris is without injury and fit to play next week. A few months ago, during the Sudirman Cup at Qingdao, Iris, at the time together with Samantha Barning, played against these two girls and then the Canadians grabbed the win in two close games. It is going to be an interesting match. If Selena and Iris win they will meet the Koreans Ha and Kim in the second round.

Voorbeschouwing wedstrijden Nederlanders op WK: damesdubbelspel

Twee Nederlandse koppels hebben zich in dit onderdeel gekwalificeerd voor het WK. Lotte Jonathans samen met Paulien van Dooremalen en Selena Piek met Iris Tabeling.
 
Lotte en Paulien zijn als dertiende geplaatst en hebben in de eerste ronde een bye. Dit betekent dat zij in de tweede ronde zullen spelen tegen Chan en Chau uit Hong Kong of tegen Agathangelou en Olver uit het gastland. Gezien hun ranking zouden beide koppels geen probleem moeten zijn voor onze landgenoten. Tegen de Hong Kong Chinezen hebben Lotte en Paulien nog nooit gespeeld, maar tegen de Engelse meiden is de onderlinge stand 2-2. Saillant detail is dat elke wedstrijd pas werd beslist in de derde game. Toch denk ik dat de speelwijze van de Engelse meiden Lotte en Paulien beter ligt dan het Aziatische spel. Als zij deze tweede ronde wedstrijd weten te winnen dan wacht hoogstwaarschijnlijk in de derde ronde het Japanse koppel Matsuo en Naito.
 
Selena en Iris hebben een succesvol jaar gehad en hebben zich geplaatst voor hun eerste WK. Zij hebben een goede loting want ze zullen in de eerste ronde tegen de Canadese meiden Michelle Li en Alex Bruce gaan spelen. Alhoewel de Canadezen dertien plaatsen hoger staan op de wereldranglijst acht ik onze meiden zeker niet kansloos, mits Iris volgende week blessurevrij is. Recent speelde Iris samen met Samantha Barning tijdens de Sudirman Cup in Qingdao nog tegen deze twee meiden en toen ging de winst in twee close games naar Canada. Het wordt een interessante wedstrijd. Mochten Selena en Iris winnen dan spelen zij in de tweede ronde tegen de sterke Koreanen Ha en Kim.
