Yesterday, all players of the national team received an e-mail from the technical director with the announcement that the Board of the Badminton Association had decided about the extention of the contract with National coach Gerben Bruijstens until December 31, 2012.
Gerben has worked for Badminton The Netherlands since the summer of 2009, he does a lot of work and does so every day with great pleasure. To me as a player it wasn’t very much of a surprise that the Board decided to extend the contract. It is good news for the entire selection because the departure of Mr. Kim meant a considerable drain
and I sincerely hope that Badminton The Netherlands is making progress in the search for his successor. Mr. Kim may have left, but we as double players intend to keep his exercises alive during the court trainings. It would be a shame if all we have learned over the past year and a half could no longer be used. So far we fortunately get all room to do so.
It is obvious that Gerben cannot take care of the entire selection so he will be temporarily assisted by the technical director Martijn van Dooremalen and Eline Coene, the coach of the junior national selection.
