No Dutch and Danish Open

Unfortunately it was decided today to withdraw me, and consequently also my partner Dave, from the Dutch and Danish Open. The reason? My right knee.

After the Bitburger Open early September, I got fluid in my right knee. It felt heavy and it gave me an unstable feeling on court. An examination by the physio and sports physician Peter Vergouwen didn’t show much. With a customized training schedule I should be fine and so it seemed to be. I went to Brno in the Czech Republic to play the
Czech International. There I found out that I wasn’t ready at all for an international competition. With fear and without confidence I stood on the court resulting in a lost match and a sprained ankle.

Luckily the ankle injury wasn’t too serious and I could train along with a taped ankle. Last Wednesday, I got problems with my right knee again. Again fluid and the same heavy, unstable feeling was back. Half way last week I had to discontinue my training and although I have trained very carefully today, the preparation for the upcoming two
tournaments will be limited. Therefore, this afternoon, in consultation with the technical director, we decided that the double of Dave and myself would be withdrawn. A terrible shame, because it’s just really fun to play in such a nice tournament in your home country.

My goal is now to become free of physical complaints and to restore my confidence on court. My aim is to be completely back on track when my club van Zijderveld meets Smashing in the next match of the league. If
this preparatory period goes well, we decide whether we can play in the Super Series of France.
