Saturday afternoon we drove to Roosteren for the away match versus this sub top club from Limburg. We were well prepared because they are known to perform very well when playing at home.
The hall is a small gym, the courts are very close to each other and the public is standing almost on the courts. In my opinion not exactly the ideal venue for playing league badminton.
We started with the doubles. Koen Ridder and I were not concentrated enough and especially in the second game we gave ourselves a hard time. Still we managed to win in two games. The ladies doubles were lost which put the score on 1-1.
Erik Meijs and Jerry Natenstedt took the mens singles for their account and in a very good way. They both put their opponents aside showing attractive playing. Also both womens singles were won securing the overall result. In both mixed doubles we experienced some resistance but we never came into danger. Eva Krab and I won our match quite easily and so did Koen Ridder and Karina de Wit although their first game was quite exciting.
This week the Dutch Open is scheduled. I play the mens doubles with my regular partner Dave Khodabux and after more than 2 years I’ll play the mixed doubles with my former partner Ilse Vaessen again. I am looking forward to this tournament and I will keep you informed.
