In this discipline two Dutch couples have qualified for the World Championships. Lotte Jonathans with Paulien van Dooremalen and Eefje Muskens with Samantha Barning. Unfortunately, only one couple will actually play in Paris because Eefje is still recovering from a shoulder injury and the World Cup comes too early for her.
Lotte and Paulien play in the first round against the new Danish women’s couple Lena Frier Kristiansen and Marie Röpke. Although this Danish couple is not seeded I still expect a tough game against them. These two Danish ladies played with other partners until about a year ago. Röpke used to play with Helle Nielsen who has put an end to her international career. Frier made a very strong combination with Kamilla Juhl, with whom she won the European Championship in 2008. Both couples have never played against each other. Based on their international ranking we may consider Lotte and Paulien to be the favorites in this interesting women’s doubles match. The winners of this encounter will most probably play in the second round against the Thai couple Amitapai and Munkit, which is seeded thirteenth.
